The management of Oluyole Warriors, popularly known as Shooting Stars, has debunked rumours linking their head coach Gbenga Ogunbote to the vacant Kano Pillars Technical Adviser role.
Reports had suggested that Kano Pillars, following the departure of former Technical Adviser Usman Abdallah, were eyeing Ogunbote as a potential replacement.
However, the Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC), Babatunde Olaniyan, has firmly stated that Ogunbote will honor his existing contract with the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side.
In an exclusive interview, Olaniyan also expressed disappointment over the club’s failure to secure a CAF interclub continental ticket in the second half of the 2024/25 NPFL season. “We had a fairly good start last season, but injuries to five key players disrupted our campaign,” he said.
He added that plans are already in motion to rebuild and strengthen the squad for a better start in the upcoming season, with the technical crew working tirelessly to address weak points.
Addressing speculation about Ogunbote’s future, Olaniyan clarified:
“After the season, we held a management meeting where Ogunbote confirmed he wants to respect his two-season contract. We’ve started planning for the next season together. Should anything change, he will inform us.”
Olaniyan also extended appreciation to fans and supporters of the club while apologizing for the missed continental qualification: “We will keep working until we achieve our goals and make the club a contender again,” he promised.
The Oluyole Warriors now turn their focus to rebuilding and aiming for a more successful outing in the 2025/26 NPFL season.
