Shooting Stars B edge Ilaji FC in tight Ibadan derby clash

Shooting Stars SC Team B secured a hard-earned 1–0 victory over Ilaji FC in a closely fought Match Day 2 encounter of the 2026 Nigeria Nationwide League (NLO), decided at the Durban Stadium in Oyo Town.

In what was a fiercely contested Ibadan derby, both sides showed discipline and attacking intent, but it was the Oluyole Warriors B who capitalised on a crucial moment to claim all three points.

The decisive breakthrough came in the second half when Shooting Stars B calmly converted a penalty, separating the teams in a match where chances were limited and margins razor-thin.

Ilaji FC, who entered the fixture on the back of a draw against Adeyemi FC in their season opener, struggled to find a cutting edge despite matching their opponents for large spells of the game.

Their resilience, however, was undone by a brief defensive lapse that led to the match-winning spot-kick.

The result leaves the head-to-head record between both sides evenly poised, with two wins apiece from their four NLO meetings, underlining the growing competitiveness of the fixture.

Reacting after the game, Ilaji FC Head Coach, Sesan Ogundele, pointed to a momentary loss of concentration as the turning point, noting that his players showed commitment but were punished for a single error.

With just one point from two matches, the Gladiators now face increasing pressure to turn their campaign around.

Attention shifts to their next clash against Oye Olohun FC, where a positive result will be vital to regain momentum in the league.

The victory moves Shooting Stars B into a stronger position within the table as they look to build on their early-season success. For Ilaji FC, the focus must now return to training as they aim to sharpen their clinical edge ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
