2026 NLO Season: Shield City FA Names Abubakar Iliyasu as New Head Coach

Kano-based Nationwide League One side, Shield City Football Academy, have announced the appointment of Abubakar Iliyasu as their new head coach ahead of the 2026 NLO season. The decision takes immediate effect as the club prepares to resume camping and begin full preparations for the new campaign.

Iliyasu is no stranger to the club, having served as assistant coach during the previous season. He worked closely with former head coach Sagiru Sagi, forming a technical partnership that delivered a strong and competitive outing for the team.

That campaign stood out for its emphasis on youth development, with several academy players earning promotion to the Nigeria National League, while others secured professional contracts before leaving the club by mutual agreement in Kano.

Shield City FA believe the appointment of Iliyasu will ensure stability and build on the progress already made. The club expressed confidence that his philosophy and familiarity with the squad will help drive improved performances and sustained success in the 2026 NLO season.
