Posted : 18 August 2026

Sheu Close emerged champions of the second edition of the FirstBank Lagos State Street Soccer Stars after a successful final at Oloyede Street, Oshodi.

The champions secured the top prize of N1m after scoring twice in the first half of the final. The three-a-side competition featured 64 teams and 640 players and began on August 2.

Oremeji Street finished third after defeating Salawu Street 6-1 in the third-place match. The runners-up received N750,000, while the third-placed team took home N500,000.

The tournament had a total prize pool of N3.5m. Several individual awards also carried cash prizes of N100,000, including the Golden Boot, Most Valuable Player, Young Player of the Tournament and Goal of the Tournament.

The competition was organised in partnership with FirstBank under its First@Sports programme. The initiative is designed to support youth development, community engagement and mass participation in sports across Lagos State.

Adebanji Atewogboye, Senior Special Assistant to the Lagos State Governor on Grassroots Sport Development, said the tournament was created to keep young people engaged during the long holiday.

He said the programme would help keep youths away from street nuisance and drug abuse while giving them an opportunity to participate in organised football. Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu served as the Chief Host of the tournament.

FirstBank Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, Olayinka Ijabiyi, said the bank's support for grassroots sports reflects its commitment to people and communities.

Ijabiyi added that grassroots football provides an important platform for young talents to develop their abilities and pursue their sporting ambitions. She also described First@Sports as a platform through which the bank supports the wider sports ecosystem.

The tournament also recognised teams for Fair Play, Community Spirit and Best Street Team, with each award carrying N100,000. Star Players received N10,000 after every match throughout the competition.

The success of the second edition further highlights the role of community football in promoting youth participation and grassroots talent development in Lagos. Sheu Close will now celebrate the tournament title and the N1m winners' prize.
