Sevilla director supports Adams, says 'Akor has been unlucky'

Posted : 15 April 2025

Sevilla’s sporting director, Víctor Orta, has shown support for Nigerian forward Akor Adams, who has struggled with injuries since joining the club in the winter transfer window. Despite being a promising addition to the squad, Adams' progress has been severely hampered by fitness setbacks.

Since his arrival at Sevilla, the former Flying Eagles striker has only appeared in four league matches. Unfortunately, two muscle injuries have sidelined him, limiting his contribution to the team. These injuries have delayed his expected development and integration into the first team.

The latest injury kept Adams out of Sevilla's 1-0 loss to Valencia, and it is uncertain whether he will return before the end of the season. This has raised concerns about his physical condition and whether he can handle the intensity and demands of La Liga.

Despite these worries, Orta remains confident in Adams' potential to succeed at the club. Speaking at the unveiling of the new coach Joaquín Caparrós, Orta expressed sympathy for the striker's misfortune and assured that the club is closely monitoring his recovery process.

Orta acknowledged that the injuries Adams has faced have been unfortunate but emphasized the club's commitment to understanding the root causes. He reiterated that Sevilla has great faith in the Nigerian forward and believes he can overcome these challenges.

Adams was recently named in Nigeria's provisional squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe, but he was not included in the final 23-man team. Despite not making the cut, the 25-year-old’s potential remains clear.

A member of the Flying Eagles squad at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup, Adams is still awaiting his first senior cap for the Super Eagles. While his time at Sevilla has been marked by injury setbacks, his future at the club and national team remains promising, with continued support from Sevilla's management.
