Scout urges club to buy Tolu, expects high fee

Posted : 18 April 2025

A prominent European scout has disclosed that he has recommended Nigeria international Tolu Arokodare to the elite club he works with, urging them to sign the in-form striker.

Arokodare has attracted widespread attention due to his strong showings for Belgian league leaders Genk, where he has consistently impressed throughout the current campaign.

On the international scene, the 23-year-old made his senior debut for Nigeria in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Rwanda on March 21, and shortly after, featured in a home fixture against Zimbabwe.

Genk initially acquired Arokodare from French side Amiens in early 2023 for €5 million, successfully fending off competition from domestic rivals Anderlecht. The club is now poised to reap significant financial rewards from a potential transfer.

Although Turkish club Trabzonspor expressed interest in the forward last summer, the expectation is that more prominent European teams will enter the race for his signature in the coming months.

According to the scout, Genk will likely seek around €25 million (approximately ₦46 billion) for Arokodare, although a final agreement could settle closer to €20 million.

Despite Genk’s intentions to keep their key players, technical director Dimitri De Condé has acknowledged that departures are likely, especially for standout talents like Zakaria El Ouahdi and Tolu Arokodare, who currently leads the Belgian league’s scoring chart with 18 goals in 33 appearances.
