Schalke Open Talks to Sign Super Eagles-Eligible Defender Félix Uduokhai

Posted : 20 July 2026

Schalke 04 have opened discussions with Turkish club Beşiktaş over a deal to sign Super Eagles-eligible defender Félix Uduokhai during the summer transfer window.

The German club are pursuing a loan agreement that includes an option to make the move permanent, according to transfer journalist Sacha Tavolieri. Schalke are keen to strengthen their defence as they prepare for the 2026/27 campaign and view Uduokhai as an experienced addition to the squad.

The 28-year-old centre-back endured a frustrating 2025/26 season with Beşiktaş. He managed only 15 appearances in the Turkish Super Lig after slipping down the pecking order, limiting his influence during the campaign.

Uduokhai has just one year remaining on his current contract, making this transfer window an important period for both the player and the Turkish club. With uncertainty surrounding his future in Istanbul, speculation over a move away has continued to grow.

A return to Germany is believed to appeal to the defender. Having previously played for 1860 Munich, Wolfsburg and Augsburg, Uduokhai is familiar with German football and sees Schalke as an opportunity to regain regular first-team action after a difficult season in Turkey.

For Beşiktaş, the proposed deal could also make financial sense. The club are reportedly looking to reduce their wage bill and reshape the squad ahead of the new season. Allowing Uduokhai to leave on loan with a purchase option would give them the chance to secure a transfer fee rather than risk losing him for nothing when his contract expires next summer.

Although Uduokhai received his first senior Germany call-up in November 2020, he did not establish himself in the national team and remains eligible to represent Nigeria under FIFA regulations. His status has continued to attract interest among Nigerian football followers, with many hoping he could eventually strengthen the Super Eagles' defensive options.

Negotiations between Schalke and Beşiktaş are ongoing, with both clubs expected to continue discussions in the coming days. If an agreement is reached, Uduokhai would return to German football for the first time since leaving Augsburg and begin a new chapter with the Royal Blues.
