Saudi Clubs Target Mohamed Salah Amid Liverpool Standoff

Posted : 09 December 2025

Saudi Arabia has revealed plans to pursue Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah during the winter transfer window, according to a source from the kingdom’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). The insider said the country would explore all options, including a loan or permanent transfer, although no direct negotiations with Liverpool have yet begun.

The PIF source confirmed that Saudi clubs hope to bring Salah to the league in January, joining stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo, while emphasizing that other clubs in the league—including Aramco-affiliated Al Qadsiah—are also showing interest. The source described a competitive environment within Saudi Arabia to recruit Salah, who remains one of the Arab world’s most prominent footballers.

Salah, 33, has been at the center of a growing rift with Liverpool after being left out of the squad in recent matches. He expressed frustration following the 3–3 draw with Leeds, claiming he felt “thrown under the bus” and noting a deteriorating relationship with manager Arne Slot. He was subsequently omitted from Liverpool’s squad for their Champions League tie at Inter Milan.

During his time at Liverpool, Salah has been instrumental in securing two Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy. However, this season he has struggled, scoring only four goals in 13 league appearances, while the Reds sit 10th in the table. Despite this, Saudi sources believe Salah’s signing would significantly boost the league both on and off the field.

Salah is scheduled to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations after Liverpool’s next Premier League home game against Brighton, a match he hinted could be his last for the club before a potential mid-season transfer.
