Executive Chairman of Shooting Stars Sports Club, Taiwo Lekan Salami, has urged supporters to stand firmly behind the team as the Ibadan-based club seeks to overcome its difficult start to the 2026/2027 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
Salami appealed for calm and continued support, acknowledging the growing concerns of fans over the team's recent performances.
He said the club understood the sacrifices made by its supporters, many of whom close their businesses or forgo daily earnings to attend matches and cheer the Oluyole Warriors.
The chairman assured them that their loyalty and commitment remained valued, adding that the management was determined to deliver improved performances and results.
Salami also urged supporters to view the club's current difficulties against the broader objective of rebuilding Shooting Stars into a consistent force in Nigerian and African football.
He recalled the club's return to continental competition after 27 years, describing the achievement as an important milestone in restoring its reputation and presence beyond Nigeria.
According to him, the long-term goal is to make continental participation a regular feature of the club's ambitions rather than an occasional accomplishment.
“After 27 years, we qualified for continental football and put the club back on the global map. I understand that you do not want us to go backwards, and we believe that playing in continental competitions should become a regular part of our journey, by God’s grace,” Salami said.
He also pointed to developments in the club's operations, particularly the emergence of shirt sponsorship and improvements in travel arrangements, as evidence of efforts to strengthen its administrative and commercial foundations.
The chairman expressed confidence that sustained progress in these areas, combined with better performances on the pitch, would help Shooting Stars achieve its long-term objectives.
He called on supporters to maintain confidence in the technical crew, Sporting Director, players, and management, stressing that collective responsibility would be essential to navigating the challenges of the ongoing campaign.
Salami's appeal comes as the Oluyole Warriors seek to regain their competitive rhythm in the NPFL, with the club's management counting on unity and patience to help restore positive results.
For Shooting Stars, the immediate challenge is to translate its institutional progress and continental ambitions into consistent performances capable of satisfying its passionate Ibadan supporters.
