Sadiq Umar Rescues Valencia With Crucial Equalizer Against Mallorca in Relegation Battle

Posted : 22 April 2026

Valencia secured a vital point on the road as Sadiq Umar found the back of the net in a 1-1 draw against Mallorca. The La Liga Week 32 fixture at the Estadi Mallorca Son Moix carried significant weight for both sides. Both clubs entered the match fighting to distance themselves from the bottom three.

The first half remained a cautious affair with few clear opportunities for either side. Mallorca enjoyed the better of the play and controlled long spells of possession. Sadiq Umar struggled to find his rhythm during the opening 45 minutes as the home defense kept him quiet. Neither team could break the deadlock before the referee blew for the interval.

The match ignited shortly after the restart when Mallorca took the lead in the 49th minute. Sergi Darder delivered a precise cross into the penalty area for Samu Costa. Costa leaped above the Valencia defenders to power a header into the roof of the net. The goal left the visitors reeling and forced coach Carlos Corberan to push his men forward.

Valencia responded well to the setback and began to create more chances in the final third. The equalizer arrived in the 67th minute through a moment of predatory instinct from Sadiq. Javi Guerra flicked a header across the box, and the Nigerian striker reacted first with a diving header. It was his first goal since mid-February and only his second since joining the club in January.

Sadiq nearly secured all three points for Valencia in the 81st minute with a powerful long-range effort. However, the Mallorca goalkeeper was positioned well to make a comfortable save. The hosts applied late pressure in an attempt to find a winner, but the Valencia defense held firm. The draw keeps Valencia in 13th place with 36 points from 32 matches played.

Valencia currently sits just four points above the relegation zone with six matches remaining in the season. Many teams below them still have games in hand, making every point crucial for survival. Coach Corberan will be banking on Sadiq to maintain this scoring form to ensure the club remains in the Spanish top flight next season.
