Ruthless Super Falcons Breeze into WAFCON Quarter-Finals with Six-Goal Demolition of Egypt

Defending champions Nigeria produced one of their most commanding performances of the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations, thrashing Egypt 6-2 to book a place in the quarter-finals and set up a highly anticipated showdown with Cameroon.

The Super Falcons overwhelmed their North African opponents with a clinical attacking display at the Stade Moulay Hassan, underlining their determination to retain the continental crown.

Nigeria broke the deadlock in the 21st minute when Asisat Oshoala calmly converted a penalty awarded after a VAR review confirmed a handball in the Egyptian penalty area.

The lead was doubled in first-half stoppage time as substitute Gift Monday finished off a well-worked short-corner routine involving Toni Payne and Rinsola Babajide. Egypt, however, pulled a goal back before the interval to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

The Falcons resumed the second half with renewed intensity, and Uchenna Kanu restored the two-goal advantage in the 57th minute with a composed left-footed finish after coming off the bench.

Nigeria's relentless pressure continued to pay dividends as the team earned two more penalties following VAR interventions. Christy Ucheibe converted the first in the 80th minute before captain Rasheedat Ajibade added the fifth from the spot eight minutes later.

There was still time for another memorable moment as Gift Monday and Ajibade combined brilliantly in stoppage time to create an easy finish for Joy Omewa, whose maiden WAFCON goal completed the emphatic 6-2 victory.

The convincing win sends the 10-time African champions into the last eight full of confidence, where they will renew their long-standing rivalry with Cameroon for a place in the semi-finals.

Nigeria's dominant display reaffirmed their status as one of the favourites to retain the WAFCON title. With confidence soaring after an impressive attacking performance, the Super Falcons will be eager to carry their momentum into the quarter-final clash against Cameroon.
