Ruthless Rivers Angels retain Rivers FA Cup with first-half masterclass

Posted : 27 April 2026

Rivers Angels FC needed just one explosive first-half spell to seal a commanding 4–0 victory over Osklean Football Academy and successfully defend their 2026 Rivers State FA Cup title at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

Rather than a slow burn, the final was effectively decided before halftime, as the “Jewels of Rivers” overwhelmed their youthful opponents with clinical finishing and relentless attacking play.

Interestingly, Osklean showed early promise and nearly stunned the favourites with a quick opening chance, but that miss proved costly. From then on, Rivers Angels seized full control and turned the contest into a one-sided affair.

The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Abasiofon Uwah calmly finished off a well-delivered cross from Abosede Ebiesuwa. That goal opened the floodgates.

Just three minutes later, Grace Saliu doubled the lead, reacting sharply to Jumai Adebayo’s set-piece to head into an unguarded net after the goalkeeper was caught out of position.

Rivers Angels continued to pile on the pressure, and Taiwo Ajibade made it 3–0 before the half-hour mark, capitalizing on a dangerous inswinging delivery that slipped through the Osklean defence.

The fourth goal summed up their dominance. In the 39th minute, Saliu turned creator, bursting down the flank and delivering a precise low cross for Rasheedat Salau to finish with ease.

With the game effectively settled by halftime, the second half turned into a more controlled display from the defending champions.

Osklean struggled to recover from the early onslaught, while Rivers Angels managed the game professionally without adding to the scoreline.

In the end, it was a performance built on efficiency and timing—a devastating first-half surge that ensured Rivers Angels extended their dominance and once again lifted the Rivers State FA Cup trophy.

The victory at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium reinforces Rivers Angels' reputation as a powerhouse in Nigerian women's football. By securing the title with such clinical precision, the team has sent a strong message to their rivals ahead of the national competition. While Osklean FA showed flashes of potential, the experienced "Jewels of Rivers" proved that their pedigree remains unmatched in the state.
