Ruthless Bayelsa Queens send statement with five-star display against Naija Ratels

Posted : 26 March 2026

Bayelsa Queens delivered one of the most emphatic performances of Matchday 12 in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL), dismantling Naija Ratels 5-0 in a one-sided contest at the Samson Siasia Stadium.

From the first whistle, the Prosperity Girls imposed themselves with intensity and attacking purpose, leaving their opponents struggling to cope with the relentless pressure.

Their breakthrough came in the 25th minute under fortunate circumstances, as Faith Andy inadvertently turned Dooshima Tarnum’s dangerous free-kick into her own net to hand the hosts the lead.

Bayelsa Queens doubled their advantage just before the break, with Delight Isaac finishing off a well-worked move in first-half stoppage time to give the home side a comfortable 2-0 cushion heading into halftime.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Bayelsa Queens maintaining control and creating chances at will. Although Alaba Olabiyi squandered a clear one-on-one opportunity early after the restart, it did little to slow the momentum of the hosts.

Captain Vera Samuel soon made amends for that miss with a moment of brilliance, unleashing a powerful strike from outside the box in the 50th minute to extend the lead to 3-0 and effectively seal the contest.

Kesiena Ojoyovwi then took center stage, calmly converting a penalty in the 67th minute before adding her second late on to cap a dominant performance and complete the 5-0 rout.

The comprehensive victory lifts Bayelsa Queens to third position in NWFL Group A, strengthening their push for a coveted Super Six spot as the league season approaches its decisive phase.

Speaking after the match, technical adviser Whyte Ogbonda emphasized the importance of maintaining momentum at this critical stage of the campaign.

"It’s a thing of joy to have scored this number of goals against a strong side like Naija Ratels.

"We were very much aware of the importance of goals as the league edges towards its climax. We spoke about this during our training sessions."

"With due respect to our opponents, but if we had taken all our chances today, we should have scored up to eight goals.

"I praise my girls for heeding to our game plans.

"Our next game against Pacesetters Queens in Ibadan will be taken seriously knowing what stage of the competition we are in now, and our target is to remain between the top two sides at the end of the season going into the Super Six."

With confidence soaring and attacking efficiency on full display, Bayelsa Queens have sent a clear warning to their rivals— they are hitting form at exactly the right time.

The dominant victory serves as a testament to the team's clinical finishing and tactical discipline under pressure. As the race for the Super Six intensifies, the Prosperity Girls have positioned themselves as formidable contenders. The focus now shifts to their upcoming away fixture, where they aim to sustain this high level of performance.
