Ruben Amorim Open to Immediate Exit if Unwanted

Posted : 22 May 2025

Ruben Amorim expressed his willingness to leave Manchester United immediately without seeking compensation if the club no longer wants him, following their disappointing Europa League final loss to Tottenham.

Brennan Johnson’s late first-half goal sealed a 1-0 defeat for United in Bilbao, adding to what has been a disastrous season for the club, which looks set to finish at its lowest league position since 1974. With just one league game remaining against Aston Villa, United sit 16th in the table.

Despite the poor results since taking over from Erik ten Hag in November, Amorim remains confident in his abilities to turn the team’s fortunes around. He emphasized that he would not resign on his own but would step down immediately if the board or fans lost faith in him.

After the match, he refrained from discussing the club’s future, focusing instead on processing the pain of the loss and praising his team’s effort, even though they failed to capitalize on their chances.

With no European football next season—the first time since 2014-15—Amorim acknowledged the challenges this presents but also highlighted the opportunity it offers. He said that without European commitments, the team would have more time to prepare and focus on improving their Premier League performance, which he sees as the key priority moving forward.
