Roma have reignited their push for a Champions League return as the Serie A season enters its final stretch, heading into Sunday’s clash with Parma full of momentum. Their recent resurgence has tightened the battle for the top four, with both Juventus and AC Milan now feeling the pressure from the capital club.
At one stage, Roma’s hopes looked to be fading after a heavy defeat to Inter Milan, the newly crowned champions. That result appeared to halt their progress, but the team has since responded strongly, collecting 10 points from their last four matches. This impressive run has moved them to within a single point of fourth-placed Juventus, while AC Milan sit just two points further ahead in third.
Head coach Gian Piero Gasperini has urged caution despite the improved form, stressing the need for perfection in the final matches. Following their convincing win over Fiorentina, he emphasised that Roma cannot afford any slip-ups if they want to secure a Champions League place, noting that results elsewhere will also play a crucial role.
Roma’s turnaround has also been shaped by internal changes, with Gasperini strengthening his position at the club after tensions involving former advisor Claudio Ranieri. The club’s ownership has now fully backed Gasperini, hoping he can deliver a return to Europe’s elite competition for the first time since Roma’s last appearance seven years ago.
The team’s attacking spark has come from Donyell Malen, who has been in outstanding form since joining on loan from Aston Villa. The Dutch forward has scored 12 goals since his arrival in January, becoming a central figure in Roma’s late-season surge.
Elsewhere in the race, AC Milan’s form has collapsed at a crucial stage, winning just once in their last five matches. Injuries and inconsistency have weakened their push, while Juventus remain firmly in the mix but under increasing pressure from below. With only a few matches remaining, the battle for Champions League qualification is finely balanced, and Roma have emerged as serious contenders at just the right moment.
