Rofiat Imuran Joins Aston Villa From London City Lionesses

Super Falcons defender Rofiat Imuran has completed a permanent move to Aston Villa Women from London City Lionesses. The 22-year-old Nigeria international becomes Villa’s ninth signing of the summer transfer window, with the move subject to visa approval.

Imuran spent two seasons with London City after joining the club in 2024. She played an important role in their 2024/25 Barclays Women’s Super League 2 title-winning campaign before making 10 appearances in the top flight during the 2025/26 season.

The defender started her senior career in France with Stade de Reims after developing in Nigeria. She made 27 league appearances and scored seven goals for the French club before moving to England.

Imuran has also represented Nigeria at several international levels. She featured for the Falconets at the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup and later made her senior Super Falcons debut in 2022.

She was part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup and the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Her international experience adds further depth to Villa’s defensive options ahead of the new WSL campaign.

Aston Villa’s Director of Women’s Football, Marisa Ewers, praised Imuran’s pace and energy. She also said the Nigerian defender’s qualities fit manager Natalia Arroyo’s playing approach and highlighted the club’s ambition to develop stronger links with African football.

Imuran is primarily a left-back and provides another option for Arroyo as Villa continue to rebuild their squad. Her arrival comes after a season in which the club finished ninth in the Women’s Super League.

The move also gives Imuran another opportunity to establish herself in England’s top division. Her previous experience with London City means she already understands the demands of WSL football.

London City confirmed the transfer on Sunday and thanked Imuran for her contribution to the club. The defender was described as a key figure during the team’s promotion campaign, particularly from left-back.

Imuran will now compete for a place in Villa’s starting XI as the club prepares for the 2026/27 season. The transfer further increases Nigerian representation in the Women’s Super League and gives the Super Falcons defender a new platform to develop her career.
