The General Manager of Rivers United, Okey Kpalukwu, has charged the players and officials of the team to remain conscious of the task ahead as they proceed on break.
Kpalukwu gave the charge during a colorful end-of-season meeting held on Monday at the Rivers United FC House in Port Harcourt.
During the meeting, Kpalukwu expressed his gratitude to the players and officials for their efforts during the just-concluded season.
He specifically thanked the Rivers State Government for the enormous support the team enjoyed throughout the season.
He also extended appreciation to the supporters of the team worldwide, although the team fell short of winning the title.
Kpalukwu urged everyone not to be disappointed but rather to take solace in the fact that the team finished in second position and secured a ticket to represent Nigeria in the CAF Champions League.
"I must say thank you for what you have helped us achieve this season, but there is an even greater task ahead, so I want to charge you to remain focused even as you make good use of this break to refresh."
Technical Manager Finidi George echoed Dr. Kpalukwu’s sentiments, stating that while he had hoped to win more, he was thankful for the team’s qualification for the CAF Champions League.
He praised the commitment of everyone involved and reminded the players of the task ahead.
"I am very happy with what we have achieved, and we should all be proud of it. Let us proceed on holiday with our heads held high," he said.
Secretary of the club, Ahmed Abdulraman, also commended the players and officials for sticking to the plan from the onset.
He thanked everyone for taking the club to its current enviable position, stating that the team’s progress was a direct result of everyone’s hard work and dedication.
In his response on behalf of the players, team captain Temple Emekayi thanked Almighty God for a successful season.
He also thanked the management of the club, led by Kpalukwu, for their direction and administrative support.
He expressed gratitude to the Rivers State Government and the good people of the state and promised that the team will not disappoint next season.
The team will proceed on break and resume on June 14, 2025, to prepare for the next football season.
