2025/2026 CAF Champions League: Rivers United Upbeat About Chances Against Black Bulls

Posted : 24 October 2025
Rivers United are confident of overturning a first-leg deficit when they face Mozambique’s Black Bulls in the CAF Champions League.

Rivers United FC, one of Nigeria’s representatives in the 2025/2026 CAF Champions League, have expressed confidence in their chances against visiting side Black Bulls of Mozambique.

The Pride of Rivers will host the Mozambican champions in the second leg of the preliminary round fixture at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The match is scheduled to kick off at 4:00 p.m. local time (5:00 p.m. Mozambique time).

The Finidi George-led side were narrowly defeated 1–0 in the first leg, courtesy of a 50th-minute strike by Senegalese forward Moctar Diallo, which proved decisive at the Lalgy Arena last Sunday.

Despite the slim loss, head coach Finidi George remains optimistic about his team’s prospects of advancing to the next round.

“We know what is at stake, and we are ready to fight back. The players are motivated, and with our fans behind us, we can turn things around,” Finidi said.

In a related development, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Kouassi Frederic Francois Biro from Côte d’Ivoire as the center referee for the second-leg tie.

He will be assisted by Prosper Adiouman (Assistant Referee 1) and Eba Médard Wenceslas Ettien (Assistant Referee 2), while Patrick Tanguy Jean Philippe Vlei will serve as the fourth official.

The match commissioner will be Munkaila Nassam Adam from Ghana.

Rivers United will be hoping to capitalize on home advantage to overturn the deficit and progress to the next stage of Africa’s premier club competition.
