The assistant coach of Remo Stars FC, Sulaiman Folarin, has pledged a more focused and rejuvenated squad after the mid-season break.
Speaking on the 1-0 away loss to Ikorodu City during the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 19, Folarin described the result as unfortunate.
“We are unfortunate not to have won this game because we came with the mindset of winning,” he said. “Things have been a bit difficult, especially following our home loss to Bendel Insurance last week. We tried our best to get a result because our initial plan was to win the game or at least secure a draw, which eventually did not happen. The boys played well against Ikorodu City, but a momentary lapse in concentration cost us dearly.”
Ikorodu City FC claimed bragging rights in the first Southwest derby of the season, defeating the defending champions Remo Stars. The Matchday 19 clash, played at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, drew a large crowd of fans.
Alfred Odinaka opened the scoring in the 40th minute, firing a half-volley rocket into the bottom corner after a free kick was blocked by the Remo Stars defense. Despite high-intensity counter-attacks, Remo Stars’ defense successfully thwarted further attempts, denying Ikorodu City a second goal.
