2025/2026 NPFL Season: Remo Stars Fined N8M, Home Games Moved

Posted : 24 January 2026

The Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has handed down heavy sanctions on defending champions Remo Stars following multiple breaches of the league’s framework and rules during their Matchday 20 fixture against Ikorodu City on January 14, 2026.

The charge sheet confirmed that Remo Stars failed to provide adequate and effective security during the home game, which led to clashes between fans of both clubs. The disturbances resulted in injuries to visiting supporters and damage to vehicles.

In addition, the club did not ensure proper conduct among its supporters, resulting in harassment and intimidation of match officials. Fans of Remo Stars also threw objects onto the pitch, causing multiple stoppages during the game.

The NPFL further noted that supporters displayed dangerous behavior by bringing weapons and other hazardous objects into the stadium, actions that could have seriously discredited the league.

As a result, Remo Stars has been fined N2 million for failing to provide adequate security, N1 million for objects thrown onto the pitch, N1 million for improper conduct of supporters, and another N1 million for actions capable of bringing the game into disrepute. A compensatory fine of N2 million has also been imposed to cover damages to the away team bus and fans, bringing the total sanctions to N8 million.

Additionally, the NPFL has ordered Remo Stars to play their remaining 2025/2026 home fixtures at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan, moving them from their Ikenne ground. The club has 48 hours from the date of notification to file an appeal against the sanctions.
