Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has initiated a major restructuring of Bayelsa United Football Club following the team's relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The governor announced the dissolution of the club's board and coaching crew ahead of the State Executive Council meeting in Yenagoa, citing the need for urgent reforms after an underwhelming campaign that ended in relegation.
Governor Diri said the decision was taken to reposition the Prosperity Boys for a stronger future and restore the club to Nigeria's top-flight football league at the earliest opportunity.
As part of the restructuring process, the state government will constitute an interim management committee to oversee the club's affairs. The committee is expected to spearhead rebuilding efforts, strengthen the team's structure, and guide Bayelsa United's push for immediate promotion back to the NPFL.
The governor reiterated his administration's commitment to reviving the fortunes of the club, expressing confidence that the changes would lay the foundation for a more competitive and successful Bayelsa United in the coming seasons.
The wholesale changes signal a clean break from the disappointments of the past campaign as the state government takes firm control of the rebuilding process. By laying this new administrative framework, the leadership aims to ensure the team is fully equipped to navigate the challenges of the lower division. With a focused interim committee at the helm, the Prosperity Boys will look to launch a swift and coordinated campaign to reclaim their elite status.
