The Ibadan Football Council (IFC) has announced that registration for the 57th edition of the Olubadan Cup will begin on Monday.
According to IFC Chairman, Rotimi Alli, this year’s tournament, themed “Royal Rumble,” will hold special significance as it coincides with the ascension of Oba Rashidi Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.
Registration will run on a first-come, first-served basis until September 15, with only 16 teams eligible to participate. The competition will be played in a knockout format from the opening round through to the final.
Alli explained that the Olubadan is expected to attend the grand finale, highlighting the cultural and traditional importance of the event. He further recalled Oba Ladoja’s long-standing support for sports, noting that he attended a full football match at the Olubadan Stadium back in November 2004 during his time as Governor of Oyo State.
The Olubadan Cup remains one of Ibadan’s most cherished football traditions, bringing together communities in celebration of both sport and culture.
