Real Sociedad announced on Sunday that they have parted ways with head coach Sergio Francisco after a disappointing run of results in La Liga. The Basque club currently sits 15th in the standings, just one point above the relegation zone, raising concerns over their league survival.
Francisco was promoted from the reserve team, Sanse, to replace Imanol Alguacil, who left the club at the end of last season after guiding Sociedad to a mid-table finish and a Europa League Round of 16 appearance. However, under Francisco’s leadership, the team managed only four wins from 16 league matches. Their 2-1 home defeat to Girona, 18th in the table, on Friday proved decisive in the club’s decision to make a change.
In a statement, Real Sociedad confirmed that current Sanse coach Jon Ansotegi will take temporary charge, overseeing the team for their upcoming fixtures before the Christmas break. The squad will face Eldense in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday, followed by a critical league clash against bottom-placed Levante on Saturday.
