Real Madrid’s preparations for their crucial Champions League last‑16 clash against Manchester City have been hit by a spate of injuries, with star forward Kylian Mbappé unlikely to feature in the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The French striker — Real Madrid’s top goalscorer — has missed the club’s last three matches and did not train with his teammates on Monday as he continues to recover from a persistent knee sprain that has troubled him since last December.
The challenge for Los Blancos is compounded by other key absences; defender Alvaro Carreras has been ruled out with a calf injury, while Jude Bellingham, Eder Militao, Rodrygo Goes, David Alaba and Dani Ceballos are also sidelined as they work toward fitness.
The club has not specified return dates for several of the injured players, and while Spanish media have suggested Mbappé could target a comeback for the return leg next week, his participation in the first match remains in doubt.
A loss or poor result at home would leave Real Madrid on the back foot heading into the second leg at the Etihad Stadium, where Manchester City are considered strong favourites after a solid season in the Premier League.
The absence of their talismanic forward and other key stars has left the Spanish giants under pressure to find goals from elsewhere as they seek to stay alive in Europe’s premier club competition.
