Real Madrid Join European Race for Manchester United Teenager JJ Gabriel

Real Madrid are among several major European clubs interested in Manchester United academy prospect JJ Gabriel after the 15-year-old formally requested the cancellation of his registration. The Spanish club are reportedly making a strong effort to recruit the teenager, while Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich and Chelsea have also been linked with the highly rated forward.

Gabriel submitted formal notice to Manchester United requesting that his registration be cancelled with immediate effect, potentially allowing him to become a free agent. However, United have indicated that they have not given up on keeping the youngster, and the Premier League could become involved if the club, player and his representatives cannot reach an agreement.

Real Madrid are reportedly interested in bringing Gabriel to Spain and developing him with Castilla, the club's reserve side. Castilla compete in Spain's senior league system, giving young players the opportunity to gain experience in competitive men's football.

Gabriel's situation has attracted significant attention because of his rapid progress at Manchester United. He became the youngest winner of the club's Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award last season after an impressive campaign with the Under-18 side.

The teenager also made his first appearance for United's senior team during pre-season against Atlético Madrid. He had subsequently been involved in Michael Carrick's first-team plans and was expected to be considered for the Carabao Cup meeting with Brighton before his request to leave changed the situation.

United head coach Carrick has urged caution because of Gabriel's age. The manager has stressed that the club must consider the teenager's welfare and ensure that his exposure to senior football is handled appropriately.

The situation is complicated by regulations governing youth registrations. Gabriel remains registered with United through the current season, while Premier League rules require agreement between the club, player and parent or carer for a youth registration to be cancelled. If an agreement cannot be reached, the Premier League can make a binding decision.

Gabriel turns 16 on October 6, when he becomes eligible to sign a scholarship agreement. His future could therefore become clearer in the coming weeks, with several European clubs reportedly monitoring developments closely.

For Manchester United, retaining Gabriel would preserve one of the academy's most highly regarded young prospects, while the player's request has opened the possibility of a move to one of Europe's leading clubs.
