Real Madrid have entered the transfer race for Atalanta’s rising defensive star Honest Ahanor. The Spanish giants are reportedly prepared to compete with Premier League side Chelsea and German champions Bayern Munich for the teenager. Ahanor has become one of the most discussed young talents in Europe after a breakthrough campaign in Italy.
The 18-year-old joined Atalanta from Genoa last summer in a deal worth a total of €20 million. Since moving to Bergamo, he has been a consistent presence in the squad across all competitions. This season, he has made 28 appearances for La Dea, including 16 in Serie A and 9 in the UEFA Champions League.
Ahanor has impressed scouts with his technical proficiency and tactical intelligence. Standing at 184cm, the left-footed defender has featured as both a center-back and a full-back. His defensive statistics are equally notable, recording 89 defensive contributions and 39 clearances in league play. He also boasts a high passing accuracy of over 89 percent.
Atalanta currently view the youngster as an "untouchable" asset and are reluctant to sell. Reports suggest the Italian club would demand at least €60 million to consider a transfer this summer. With a contract running until June 2028, the Bergamo-based side holds a strong negotiating position against interested suitors.
Internationally, Ahanor’s future remains a topic of high interest for both Italy and Nigeria. Born in Italy to Nigerian parents, he was recently called up to the Italian U-21 national team. He featured in recent matches against North Macedonia and Sweden during the March international break. Despite this, he remains eligible for Nigeria’s Super Eagles as he has not yet made a senior appearance for Italy.
Real Madrid see Ahanor as a long-term successor to their aging defensive line. Chelsea have also been long-term admirers, having scouted the player since his time in the Genoa academy. As the summer window approaches, the competition for the versatile defender is expected to intensify among Europe's elite.
