Real Madrid have announced the signing of defender Ibrahima Konaté, who will join the club from Liverpool on a free transfer once his contract at Anfield expires. The French international has agreed a four-year deal with the Spanish giants, keeping him at the Santiago Bernabéu until June 2030.
The club confirmed that an agreement has been reached for Konaté to become a Real Madrid player as part of their long-term defensive rebuild. The 27-year-old will complete the move after finishing his current commitments with Liverpool, bringing an end to a successful spell in England.
Konaté joined Liverpool in 2021 from RB Leipzig and went on to make 183 appearances for the club. During his time at Anfield, he helped the Reds secure major honours, including the Premier League title in 2025 and the FA Cup in 2022, establishing himself as a key figure in defence.
The centre-back is currently representing France at the World Cup and is expected to link up with his new club following the tournament. His arrival adds further depth to a Real Madrid squad that has already seen significant changes this summer.
Los Blancos have strengthened their team with several high-profile additions, including Marc Cucurella from Spain and Portugal midfielder Bernardo Silva, while Jose Mourinho has taken over as head coach. The club has also been linked with Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries as part of an ongoing squad overhaul.
Real Madrid recently extended the contract of Antonio Rüdiger until 2027, even as they bid farewell to veterans Dani Carvajal and David Alaba at the end of their contracts. The club’s recent activity reflects a broader rebuilding strategy after two consecutive seasons without winning a major trophy.
