Real Madrid abandons Kylian Mbappe signing, even on free transfer

Real Madrid has reportedly decided against pursuing the signing of Kylian Mbappe, the French World Cup winner, despite his contract with PSG nearing expiration. Despite initial expectations of a move to join fellow French stars under Carlo Ancelotti, reports from Cadena SER (via Marca) indicate otherwise.

Mbappe, who secured the third spot in the recent Ballon d’Or rankings, boasting 12 goals in 14 appearances this season, has been ruled out by Real Madrid for three key reasons, as per the Spanish outlet.

Firstly, his high salary demands pose a significant concern for Los Blancos, with an estimated annual cost of around 20 million euros for a free transfer, along with a substantial sign-on bonus.

Secondly, Mbappe's age, set to turn 25 in December 2023, conflicts with Real Madrid's preference for younger players, typically favoring those below the age of 20.

Lastly, the great turnaround in Mbappe's decision to renew his contract with PSG, rejecting a move to Madrid two seasons ago, still stings for the club. As a result, Real Madrid has officially abandoned their pursuit of the French superstar.
