RB Leipzig Open to Loan Offers for Nigerian Wingers Thomas and Sani

Posted : 11 August 2026

RB Leipzig are prepared to consider loan offers for Ayodele Thomas and Suleman Sani ahead of the 2026/27 Bundesliga season. The move would give both young wingers a chance to gain regular playing time and continue their development away from the Red Bull Arena.

The report was first linked to Sky Sport Germany journalist Philipp Hinze. Leipzig have reportedly not closed the door on keeping either player, but suitable loan proposals could be considered if they guarantee meaningful minutes.

Thomas joined Leipzig from PSV Eindhoven in February 2026. The Netherlands youth international signed as a long-term prospect after recording three goals and six assists in 18 appearances for PSV's second team before his move.

The 19-year-old is eligible to represent Nigeria through his family background. He has, however, represented the Netherlands at youth level and was part of their Under-19 setup. Bundesliga records currently list him with Dutch and Nigerian nationality.

Thomas has yet to make his Bundesliga debut. His lack of senior appearances at Leipzig makes a temporary move a possible route to regular competitive football, especially as the club continue to develop a deep group of young attacking players.

Sani arrived at Leipzig from Slovak club AS Trenčín in January on a contract running until June 2031. He scored 16 goals and provided seven assists in 59 competitive appearances for Trenčín before making the move to Germany.

The Nigeria Under-20 international endured a difficult start in Germany because of injuries. He missed time with an ankle problem before suffering another setback, a hip muscle injury, in training in April. Leipzig coach Ole Werner confirmed that the injury would keep him out for several matches.

Sani has yet to make a competitive appearance for Leipzig. His fitness problems have therefore limited his opportunity to establish himself in the senior squad since his arrival.

A loan could offer both players a controlled environment to gain regular first-team experience. Leipzig's current squad includes several young attacking options, including Antonio Nusa, Johan Bakayoko, Yan Diomande, Tidiam Gomis, Thomas and Sani.

Neither player is reportedly pushing strongly to leave Leipzig permanently. However, Thomas and Sani are understood to be open to suitable temporary opportunities if the right clubs can provide consistent playing time during the 2026/27 campaign.
