Rasmus Hojlund sets Premier League record in Manchester United's hard-fought win over Luton

Posted : 18 February 2024

Rasmus Hojlund etched his name in Premier League history with a stellar performance, propelling Manchester United to a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Luton on Sunday. The 21-year-old striker became the youngest player to score in six consecutive Premier League games, surpassing Joe Willock's previous record. After a slow start at United, Hojlund has hit top form, scoring eight goals in his last eight games across all competitions.

Hojlund wasted no time making an impact, netting twice within the first seven minutes at Kenilworth Road. His first goal came after intercepting a poor back pass, rounding the goalkeeper, and calmly slotting the ball into the net. The second followed in the seventh minute when Alejandro Garnacho's volley deflected off Hojlund's chest into the goal. However, Luton showed resilience as Carlton Morris quickly reduced the deficit, setting the stage for a tense encounter.

Despite United's early dominance, Luton fought back, creating several chances to level the score. United goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski made crucial saves, and Morris capitalized on defensive lapses to keep the home side in contention. United, currently in sixth place, held on for their fourth consecutive league victory, moving within five points of fourth-placed Aston Villa in the race for Champions League qualification.

Hojlund's prolific form has injected renewed hope into United's pursuit of a top-four finish, a target that seemed elusive during challenging periods of the season. The young striker's contributions have been pivotal in transforming the team's prospects, and his record-breaking performances have added an exciting dimension to United's campaign.
