Barcelona winger Raphinha has revealed that he had contemplated leaving the club, but a timely phone call from new coach Hansi Flick convinced him to stay. The Brazilian explained that under previous coach Xavi Hernandez, he felt a lack of trust and limited opportunities, which led to uncertainty about his future at Camp Nou. Flick’s arrival changed the narrative, offering Raphinha a fresh start and renewed confidence.
Raphinha admitted that many believed he should leave, including fans and possibly even club officials, given his inconsistent role last season with only 17 league starts. However, under Flick's leadership, the 28-year-old emerged as a key player, enjoying the most successful season of his career with 34 goals and 25 assists. He described Flick’s call as pivotal, stating it changed his mindset and gave him a reason to believe he could still thrive at Barcelona.
Now fully committed to the club, Raphinha recently signed a contract extension that will keep him at Barcelona until June 2028. As he continues to prepare for Brazil’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay, the winger credits Flick’s belief in him as the driving force behind his resurgence and his decision to stay
