Brazilian forward Raphinha has enjoyed a remarkable start to the 2026–27 season with Barcelona, establishing himself as a major attacking threat. The 29-year-old has scored 14 goals and registered three assists in eight appearances across all competitions, helping the Spanish champions maintain an impressive winning run.
His performances have attracted attention, with his absence from the 30-player Ballon d’Or shortlist prompting debate over whether his contributions have received sufficient recognition.
However, Raphinha’s progress has been interrupted by a right thigh problem sustained while representing Brazil during the international break. He was substituted at half-time in Brazil’s friendly against Australia before returning to Barcelona for further assessment. Medical examinations identified a minor muscle issue, prompting the club to take a cautious approach to his recovery.
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has confirmed that the forward will miss the upcoming La Liga match against Getafe and the Champions League meeting with Galatasaray. Although the injury is not considered serious, the club is keen to avoid aggravating the problem, particularly given Raphinha’s history of recurring injuries last season.
Raphinha’s absence comes at a demanding stage of Barcelona’s campaign, with several important matches approaching. The Catalan side are scheduled to face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League before meeting domestic rivals Real Madrid in La Liga later in October. His unavailability could test the team’s attacking depth as Flick seeks to maintain their strong start.
The Barcelona coach will need to consider alternative attacking options while his Brazilian forward recovers. Gabriel Jesus is among the players who could help fill the gap, while other attacking teammates may also be asked to take on greater responsibility.
Despite the setback, Barcelona will be hopeful that Raphinha can return once he has recovered sufficiently. Flick’s decision to rest him for the next two matches reflects the club’s intention to prioritise his long-term fitness rather than risk a more serious injury during a crucial stretch of the season.
