NPFL Matchday 37: Rangers Aim for Title Edge as Bendel Insurance Visit Enugu

Posted : 10 May 2026

Rangers International are edging closer to a potential league triumph as they prepare for a decisive Matchday 37 encounter against Bendel Insurance at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu, also known as the Cathedral.

With the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League season nearing its conclusion, the Flying Antelopes know that a victory on Sunday could significantly strengthen their hold on the top of the table and move them within touching distance of the championship.

Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu’s side have enjoyed a strong and consistent campaign, showing resilience and tactical discipline in a tightly contested title race. Their confidence has also been boosted by a solid 2-0 away win over Bayelsa United in Yenagoa last weekend, a result that reinforced their position at the summit.

Rangers’ success this season has been driven by a well-balanced squad that combines youthful talent with experienced campaigners. The leadership of General Manager Barrister Amobi Ezeaku has also been instrumental in building a team capable of challenging for honours once again.

Among their standout performers is defender Chidozie Iwundu, who has enjoyed an extraordinary season in front of goal, scoring 10 times to become the highest-scoring defender in the league. He has been supported by consistent contributions from players such as Godwin Obaje, Emmanuel Essien, Wisdom Ebirim, and Chidiebere Nwobodo.

However, the title race remains open. Rivals Rivers United are still in contention and will face Wikki Tourists in Bauchi, meaning every point remains crucial with just two matches left in the campaign.

Bendel Insurance, meanwhile, arrive in Enugu facing a difficult challenge against a side chasing the title. They will be hoping to frustrate Rangers and delay their march towards league glory.

All attention now turns to the Cathedral, where Rangers will look to secure another vital win that could bring them even closer to lifting the NPFL trophy once again.
