Rangers Football Club has completed the signing of Nigerian forward Cyriel Dessers from Italian Serie B team Cremonese, as confirmed by the club after a successful two-day medical examination.
Dessers, 28, becomes Michael Beale's sixth summer signing for Rangers. In the previous season, he scored six goals in Serie B as Cremonese finished in the relegation zone.
Expressing his excitement after the deal was finalized, Dessers praised the club's rich history and expressed his relief at joining Rangers.
He mentioned the importance of the club's tradition, passionate fans, and iconic stadium, while also highlighting the discussions he had with Michael Beale regarding the team's plans and objectives on and off the pitch.
Dessers believed that Rangers would be a great fit for him, expressing his happiness at being part of the team.
With four caps for the Nigerian national team, Dessers has already scored one international goal, which came in a match against Mexico in May of the previous year.
Rangers have been active in the transfer market this preseason, aiming to build a squad capable of challenging Celtic, who achieved a treble last season, and making an impact in European competitions.
The club has already secured the signings of attacking midfielder Kieran Dowell, defender Dujon Sterling, and goalkeeper Jack Butland on free transfers.
Additionally, Sam Lammers has joined from Atalanta for a reported fee of around £3.5 million, and Abdallah Sima has finalized a season-long loan move from Brighton as a replacement for the departed Alfredo Morelos.
The departures of Ryan Kent, Allan McGregor, Scott Arfield, and the end of Malik Tillman's loan spell have further emphasized the need for new recruits.
Michael Beale, the Rangers coach, identified Dessers as a player who can complement the existing squad.
Beale expressed delight in signing Dessers and highlighted his extensive experience playing in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Italy, as well as his participation in European competitions.
He also emphasized Dessers' suitability to the team's style of play and praised his qualities both on and off the ball.
Beale regarded Dessers, at 28 years old, as a valuable addition who would bring personality and leadership to the team, and he looked forward to working closely with him in the coming seasons.
