2023/2024 NPFL Match Day 24: Rangers International FC welcomes struggling Kwara United FC to Cathedral

Posted : 09 March 2024

Rangers International FC of Enugu will aim to continue their fine form that has seen them once occupy the advantageous second position in the 2023/2024 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), after which they were overtaken by another ambitious club, Plateau United FC.

The last three matches have been great for the Coal City boys as they have secured four straight wins, even against the most difficult teams.

Ilechukwu was able to guide the team to a 2-0 win away at Kaduna against Niger Tornadoes in Match Day 23, and before this, the team also had a crucial 1-0 win over the second-placed team on the NPFL log, Remo Stars, right there at the Cathedral.

In Match Day 22, the Flying Antelopes surprisingly beat Doma United 1-0 right in front of their vociferous fans at Pantami Stadium Gombe, a feat no club has achieved so far this season. They also defeated league strugglers Akwa United FC at the Cathedral in the Match Day 20 drama.

Ilechukwu, dubbed the "working one," will therefore seek an impressive result against the Harmony Boys when they come knocking on Sunday at the Cathedral.

For Kwara United FC, they have endured a difficult season with just a paltry five wins in 23 matches, also having 10 draws and seven losses, and are rooted in the relegation zone in 17th position in a 20-team league showdown.

The Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium on Sunday will set the stage for an enthralling encounter as Rangers International lock horns with Kwara United.

Enugu Rangers, wielding a formidable good average points per game at home, stand as the behemoth of the Nnamdi Azikiwe fortress. Their attacking prowess is quantified by an impressive average expected goals when playing at home, coinciding with a defensive solidity that concedes fewer goals, thus mirroring this with their astronomical home win percentage of 91 per cent paints a vivid picture of dominance.

Contrastingly, Kwara United's journey away from home has been tumultuous, underscored by a concerning loss percentage of 55 per cent. Their struggle is further elucidated through their average win when on the road, juxtaposed with a significantly higher average.

Head-to-head: From 2015, Rangers International FC of Enugu and Kwara United have had 11 competitions among which there were 5 winning matches for Enugu Rangers and 5 draws.
