Rangers International FC Brace for Warri Wolves Challenge

Posted : 25 January 2026

Rangers International FC Technical Adviser, Fidelis Ilechukwu, has expressed confidence in his team’s readiness ahead of Sunday’s 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 22 clash against Warri Wolves. The Flying Antelopes are eager to start the second round of the season on a strong note.

Fresh from national team duties, Ilechukwu revealed that Rangers have conducted a detailed analysis of their opponents, acknowledging the physical strength and organization of the Seasiders.

“You must understand the team, the opponents, and everything, and prepare accordingly. We have been following them and watching videos. They are so strong,” he said.

Despite the threat posed by Warri Wolves, the Rangers boss believes his side is both mentally and tactically prepared for the encounter.

“I think we understand what it takes — the analysis and everything — and I think we are ready,” he added.

As the league enters its decisive phase, Ilechukwu emphasized that mentality will play a key role in Rangers’ ambitions for the second round.

“The most important thing is football. You just have to help the team and do your best. Win, draw, or lose, the most important thing is the mentality,” he explained.

Rangers will again look to centre-back Iwundu, who has been a surprise attacking outlet this season, scoring seven league goals — the highest in the Rangers squad and second overall in the NPFL. Ilechukwu noted that encouraging defenders to contribute offensively is a deliberate part of his football philosophy.

Off the pitch, the Rangers tactician clarified the situation surrounding Evans Ogbonda, following speculation triggered by the defender’s social media post. Ilechukwu confirmed that Ogbonda has completed a move to Zambian side Power Dynamos, stressing the club’s player-first approach.

“Evans has got a deal in Zambia. We thank him for everything. One of the best things we enjoy at Rangers is giving players freedom,” he said.

He further explained that Rangers prioritize open dialogue and player welfare in contract matters.

“Even if you have a contract, once you have a good discussion with the club, they will allow you to leave. Players must look for better opportunities because there is no pension in football.”

While confirming Ogbonda’s departure, Ilechukwu insisted the door remains open for a future return.

“He is not with the team now, but he is still part of our platform. If he ever wants to come back, he has a 100 percent chance. But for now, Evans is gone.”

Looking ahead to the transfer window, the Rangers boss confirmed plans to strengthen the squad, particularly in attack.

“We have to do more in attack — maybe bring in one, two, or three strikers,” he revealed.

Ilechukwu concluded by underlining that Rangers’ rebuilding project goes beyond immediate results.

“It’s not all about winning trophies. It’s about changing lives and producing players.”

As Rangers prepare for the Warri Wolves test, the Flying Antelopes will aim for a strong start to the second round, with Ilechukwu optimistic about what lies ahead.

“The first round is gone. I believe we will have a better second round, by God’s will,” he concluded.
