Kwara United will, on Sunday, face Rangers International at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, in a Matchday 10 fixture of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
The Harmony Boys, buoyed by their hard-fought Matchday 9 victory over Katsina United, will look to maintain that momentum as new Technical Adviser, Coach Ashifat Suleiman, continues his mission to guide the team towards the NPFL title and defend their FA Cup crown.
The club’s management recently announced Suleiman’s appointment following the dismissal of former head coach Tunde Sani due to a series of poor results. Suleiman was handed the role for the remainder of the season, with the possibility of an extension depending on his performance.
According to the club’s Director, Mr. Titiloye, the decision to appoint Suleiman was based on his deep understanding of the club’s structure and football philosophy, having served in various coaching capacities within the team over the years.
“Within the last three games, Coach Suleiman has shown great commitment and a sense of belonging. The management fully supports him as we begin a new chapter in the club’s history,” Titiloye stated.
In his remarks, Coach Suleiman expressed gratitude for the opportunity and vowed to work closely with his technical crew to achieve the club’s objectives. He emphasized that his goal is to retain the Federation Cup and make a strong push for the league title this season.
The coach also highlighted his football philosophy, which focuses on creativity and possession-based play, urging fans and supporters to rally behind the team as they continue their campaign.
In their most recent meetings, during the 2024/2025 season, Kwara United played out a 1–1 draw with Rangers in Ilorin but lost the reverse fixture in Enugu. However, the Ilorin-based side stunned the Flying Antelopes in last year’s Federation Cup semi-final, securing a 1–0 victory courtesy of Wasiu Alalade’s decisive goal in Lagos.
Sunday’s clash promises to be an intense encounter as both sides look to build consistency in the ongoing season. Kwara United currently occupy 10th position on the NPFL table with 12 points from nine matches, while Rangers sit just below them in 12th place with 11 points from eight games.
Morale in the Kwara United camp is high, with minimal injury concerns. Although Aliu Salaudeen remains sidelined, key players such as Saheed Olaniyi, Bright Babatunde, Moses Ajiboye, and long-throw specialist Seun Ogunribide have all returned to full fitness ahead of the trip to Enugu.
As both sides prepare for this crucial fixture, fans can expect a tightly contested game filled with tactical intrigue, determination, and a battle for supremacy between two proud NPFL sides.
