Rangers International FC recorded their first away victory of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season, edging defending champions Remo Stars 1-0 at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta. The result ended the Sky Blue Stars’ remarkable 57-match unbeaten home run.
The Flying Antelopes started the match brightly, with Olamilekan Adedayo testing Remo Stars’ goalkeeper with a well-struck free-kick in the 10th minute. Just two minutes later, Rangers took the lead when Evans Ogbonda delivered a precise cross that found Godwin Obaje, who powered home a header to mark his 90th NPFL career goal and his fifth of the season.
Remo Stars tried to respond after halftime, with Chilekwu attempting a long-range effort in the 49th minute that was expertly saved by Rangers’ goalkeeper Abine George. The hosts intensified their attacking pressure late in the game, creating chances through Samson in the 86th minute and Michael Ibe in stoppage time, but George remained composed, keeping Rangers’ lead intact.
Rangers’ victory also extended their unbeaten streak to four matches, during which they have scored two goals and kept four consecutive clean sheets. The win lifts Rangers to fifth place on the league table with 19 points from 12 games, while Remo Stars slip to 16th with 13 points. Obaje’s decisive goal moves him level at the top of the NPFL scoring charts alongside Warri Wolves’ Evwierhurhoma Igbunu, both on five goals.
Looking ahead, Rangers International will travel to Kano to face Barau FC on Match Day 13, while Remo Stars prepare for a crucial South West derby against Shooting Stars in Ibadan, aiming to recover from the home defeat.
