Rangers and Rivers United Set for Final Day Title Decider in Thrilling NPFL Finale

The 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season is heading toward a dramatic conclusion on May 24. Rangers International currently lead the table with 65 points after a vital 2-1 win over Bendel Insurance. Rivers United remain hot on their heels with 64 points following a resilient 3-2 victory against Wikki Tourists. Both teams must now navigate a high-stakes final matchday to determine who will be crowned champions.

Rangers International face a difficult task as they travel to Lagos to play Ikorodu City. The "Flying Antelopes" need a victory to ensure they secure their ninth league title. Any slip-up in Lagos would open the door for Rivers United to leapfrog them. Coach Fidelis Ilechukwu has urged his players to maintain a strong mental focus ahead of the trip. Ikorodu City are currently in fourth place and are fighting for a continental qualification ticket.

Rivers United appear to have a more favorable final fixture as they host Katsina United in Port Harcourt. Coach Finidi George remains optimistic that his side can reclaim the top spot on the last day. The Port Harcourt team has shown great character recently by winning crucial away matches. They will rely on their strong home form to secure the three points needed to stay in the race.

The battle for the top three is equally intense between Shooting Stars and Ikorodu City. Shooting Stars currently occupy third place with 60 points after a 1-0 win over Barau FC. They only need a draw away at Niger Tornadoes to secure a continental spot. However, Ikorodu City sit just two points behind and could overtake them with a win against Rangers. Niger Tornadoes are also fighting for survival and must win to avoid the drop.

The relegation zone is already partly decided with Bayelsa United and Wikki Tourists confirmed for the lower division. Several other clubs remain mathematically unsafe as the season draws to a close. Only one point separates 18th-placed Niger Tornadoes from the teams just above the relegation line. The final day promises total drama across all venues as the league's most critical positions are finalized.
