Kano Pillars relied on the evergreen brilliance of 45-year-old icon Rabiu Ali to secure a crucial 2–1 victory over Kun Khalifat in their NPFL Matchday 16 clash in Katsina.
The midfield maestro, affectionately known as Pele, delivered a vintage performance, scoring both goals for the Sai Masu Gida as they continue their fight to climb out of the relegation zone.
His brace takes him to six goals for the season—joint-top in the current NPFL scoring chart—and earned him the Fans’ Player of the Match award.
Pillars began with purpose and were rewarded in the 19th minute when Ali curled in a superb free-kick, leaving the Kun Khalifat goalkeeper helpless.
But the hosts quickly responded, with Ebuka Nwokorie finding the equaliser in the 27th minute to level the scoring at 1–1.
Kano Pillars regained control before the break. In the 38th minute, Ahmed Musa was brought down inside the box, and the referee pointed to the spot. Ali stepped up with trademark composure, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way to restore the visitors’ lead.
The second half produced fewer chances as Pillars tightened their defensive shape, showing discipline and maturity to preserve their advantage.
Kun Khalifat pushed late in the game, but the visitors defended resolutely to secure a hard-earned and much-needed win.
For Kano Pillars, the result is vital. For Rabiu Ali, it is yet another chapter in a remarkable NPFL career defined by longevity, quality, and leadership.
His influence once again proved decisive—an enduring reminder of why he remains an undisputed legend in Kano Pillars history.
