Pundit reveals Galatasaray's message to Osimhen: Champions League first

Posted : 06 May 2025

Galatasaray is eager to keep Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen for at least another season. Despite ongoing interest from several top European clubs, the Turkish side is working hard to persuade their star forward to remain in Istanbul.

Osimhen’s future remains uncertain as the 26-year-old has attracted attention from some of Europe's biggest teams. However, Galatasaray is determined to convince him to stay for the 2025–2026 season, putting forward multiple proposals in recent weeks.

In the latest attempt to secure Osimhen's services, Galatasaray’s management made a direct plea for him to remain at the club for one more season. According to football commentator Özgür Sancar, the club offered Osimhen the opportunity to compete in the Champions League before potentially making a move to the Premier League next year.

Sancar revealed the club's pitch, quoting them as saying, “Stay for one more year, let’s achieve success in the Champions League. If you want, you can transfer to the Premier League again next season.” This approach comes at a crucial moment for both the club and the player, as Galatasaray is on the verge of winning the Süper Lig title.

With the Süper Lig championship within reach, Galatasaray’s officials believe that an early title win, combined with the promise of Champions League glory, could be enough to convince Osimhen to extend his stay at the club. Sancar emphasized the importance of securing the championship early in influencing Osimhen’s decision.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Osimhen is said to feel a deep sense of belonging at Galatasaray. The striker has had an outstanding season in Turkey, netting 33 goals across all competitions, which surpasses his previous personal best of 31 goals with Napoli.

Osimhen’s remarkable form has not only put Galatasaray in a strong position to win the league but also endeared him to the club’s supporters. His goal tally now puts him just one short of Mario Jardel’s all-time record for goals in a single season for Galatasaray, a record that has stood since the 2000-2001 season.
