PSG Overpower Messi’s Inter Miami 4-0 to Cruise into Club World Cup Quarterfinals

Posted : 30 June 2025

Paris Saint-Germain delivered a commanding performance to dismantle Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami 4-0 and secure a spot in the Club World Cup quarterfinals on Sunday. The match, held in Atlanta, showcased the stark contrast in quality between the reigning European champions and the ambitious but outmatched Major League Soccer side.

Despite the presence of global icon Lionel Messi and his former Barcelona teammates—Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba—Inter Miami could not keep pace with Luis Enrique’s high-flying PSG. The French side, boasting a dynamic blend of youth and experience, dominated from the opening whistle.

Joao Neves opened the scoring just six minutes into the match, heading in unmarked at the back post after a well-placed free-kick. Inter Miami showed brief moments of resistance, but PSG's relentless pressure paid off with three quick goals before halftime. Neves doubled his tally in the 39th minute following a midfield error from Busquets, Tomas Aviles inadvertently put the ball into his own net minutes later, and Achraf Hakimi added a fourth by finishing off a rebound after his initial shot struck the crossbar.

Messi’s Efforts and Miami’s Struggles
While Messi remained the crowd favorite, drawing loud cheers and dominating attention among the 66,000 fans in attendance, his influence on the game was limited. Miami’s struggles in midfield and defense kept him isolated for much of the match. He managed to thread a sublime pass to Tadeo Allende and later delivered a lofted ball to Suarez, but neither opportunity shifted the momentum.

The Argentine legend did test PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a low shot in the second half and attempted to recreate his famous free-kick magic, but his effort was blocked. Suarez also had a chance to pull one back but couldn’t convert. Despite a spirited effort in the latter stages, the deficit proved too great for Inter Miami to overcome.

PSG's Tactical Superiority
PSG’s cohesive gameplay, sharp pressing, and tactical discipline left little room for Miami to mount any serious threat. The French champions looked composed and clinical, with players like Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz, and Barcola pulling the strings in midfield. Luis Enrique’s side will now face either Bayern Munich or Flamengo in the quarterfinals, continuing their pursuit of Club World Cup glory.

Inter Miami’s journey at the Club World Cup came to an end in emphatic fashion, as PSG underlined their status as favorites with a resounding victory. While Messi and his teammates showed moments of intent, the European champions were simply too strong on the night.
