PSG Eye Mateus Fernandes as Chelsea, Barcelona and Europe’s Elite Circle Transfer Market Moves Intensify

Posted : 23 April 2026

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly made initial contact with representatives of West Ham midfielder Mateus Fernandes, a 21-year-old Portugal youth international who has impressed with his development in the Premier League. The French champions are said to be monitoring his progress closely as they look to strengthen their midfield options for the future.

In England, Chelsea continue to face uncertainty over their managerial direction following the dismissal of Liam Rosenior. The club are now compiling a shortlist of potential replacements, with Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola among the leading candidates. Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, currently managing Como in Italy, is also being considered as part of the club’s review of options.

Barcelona are exploring attacking reinforcements ahead of the summer window, with Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford still a key target. Reports suggest the Spanish giants would prefer to extend his loan rather than activate a permanent purchase option valued at around £26 million. Meanwhile, Barcelona are also tracking Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and Chelsea winger Pedro Neto as part of their wider recruitment plans.

Elsewhere in the Premier League, several top clubs including Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham, Aston Villa, and Newcastle are monitoring Manchester City goalkeeper James Trafford, who has attracted growing interest after his recent performances.

At Manchester United, the club have reportedly informed midfielder Bruno Fernandes that they want him to remain at Old Trafford despite ongoing speculation about his long-term future. The Portuguese playmaker continues to be central to United’s plans.

Sunderland could also be preparing for managerial change, with reports suggesting Regis Le Bris may be dismissed if the club fails to secure European qualification. In Germany, Bayern Munich are unlikely to extend Nicolas Jackson’s loan spell from Chelsea, while Juventus have identified Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson as their top target for the summer window.

Finally, Manchester United are keeping a close watch on Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, while Benfica’s Richard Ríos has also emerged as a potential midfield option. Bournemouth themselves are tracking Bayer Leverkusen talent Malik Tillman as they prepare for possible squad reshaping.

Across Europe, Arsenal are monitoring Real Madrid youngster Arda Güler, who could become available depending on developments in Madrid’s managerial situation.

The summer transfer window is already shaping up to be highly competitive, with Europe’s biggest clubs preparing for significant squad changes across multiple leagues.
