PSG Chase Historic Champions League Win Against Battle-Hardened Inter Milan

Posted : 30 May 2025

Paris Saint-Germain are aiming to finally capture their first UEFA Champions League title, but they face a formidable challenge from Inter Milan in Saturday’s final in Munich. The clash presents a dramatic contrast between PSG’s youthful, high-octane style and Inter’s seasoned, structured approach.

While PSG has invested heavily since their Qatari takeover in 2011, this is only their second final in that time. Their last attempt, in 2020, ended in disappointment with a loss to Bayern Munich. This season’s journey has been driven by a new generation of talent following the departures of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe.

Led by coach Luis Enrique, PSG’s exciting young team—boasting an average age under 24—recovered from early struggles in the revamped group stage. A vital comeback against defending champions Manchester City sparked a surge in form, with the Parisians dispatching Liverpool, Aston Villa, and Arsenal to reach the final.

Ousmane Dembele has been a standout performer, scoring 33 goals, while new additions like Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and rising stars such as Bradley Barcola and Desire Doue have contributed significantly. Key veterans like Achraf Hakimi and goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma have also delivered solid performances.

Coach Enrique is now looking to secure his second Champions League title, a decade after guiding Barcelona to the trophy. He believes PSG are ready to make history by becoming the first Parisian team to win the Champions League and only the second French club ever, following Marseille’s triumph in 1993.

Remarkably, that victory also came in Munich, adding an extra layer of symbolism to Saturday’s showdown. Enrique has emphasized belief in his squad and their commitment to playing their style of football at the highest level.

Inter Milan, meanwhile, are chasing a fourth European Cup, with their last win coming in 2010 under Jose Mourinho. Coach Simone Inzaghi, who led the team to the 2023 final, relies on experience, with several players from that squad likely to start again.

Inter’s path to Munich included victories over Bayern Munich and a thrilling semifinal win over Barcelona. Inzaghi’s preferred 3-5-2 setup contrasts with PSG’s more attacking formation, and he acknowledges the challenge ahead. However, he remains confident that his side, even after missing out on the Serie A title, can rise to the occasion and deliver a performance worthy of European glory.
