President Federation Cup Semi-Finals Take Center Stage in Katsina and Benin Today

The battle for Nigeria's oldest domestic knockout trophy reaches a critical juncture today. Former champions El-Kanemi Warriors and Wikki Tourists square off at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina. Simultaneously, Nasarawa United will take on a highly motivated Ikorodu City side at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City. Both high-stakes fixtures offer the victorious teams a direct ticket to the grand finale and a potential route to continental football next season.

El-Kanemi Warriors enter their match boasting three previous titles, including consecutive tournament triumphs in 1991 and 1992. The Maiduguri-based team also lifted the trophy in 2024 by defeating Abia Warriors in Lagos. To reach this stage, the Warriors eliminated Krusaders FC, Akwa United, Bendel Insurance, and Sokoto United. They face a resilient Wikki Tourists side that won its solitary title in 1998. The Bauchi club advanced to the semi-finals after dispatching Jigawa Golden Stars Jnr, Bayelsa United, Kada Warriors, and Flight FC.

The second semi-final match brings intense emotional narratives for both competing clubs. Nasarawa United return to Benin City, the exact venue where they suffered a painful penalty shootout defeat to Bayelsa United in the 2021 final. The Solid Miners booked their place in the last four this year by overcoming Westgate FC, Ejigbo City, Rivers United, and Plateau United. Technical Adviser Mangut Mbwas stated that his squad remains fully focused and intends to minimize errors on the pitch.

Ikorodu City present a formidable challenge after completing a highly impressive domestic league campaign. The Lagos-based club comfortably secured its top-flight status and narrowly missed out on a continental ticket on the final day of the season. They are also motivated by last year's semi-final exit against Abakaliki FC. The Oga Boys reached the current semi-final round by eliminating Gaa Akanbi, Jigawa Golden Stars, heavyweights Enyimba FC, and Barau FC.
