Premier League clubs have significantly increased their spending this January, with a total of £247m spent so far, up from £90m in the same period last year. Manchester City has been the primary driver of this spending, accounting for approximately £125m, which is more than the total amount spent by the other 19 Premier League clubs combined.
With a week left in the transfer window, further spending is expected, though it is unlikely to surpass the record £815m set in 2023.
Ligue 1 follows as the second-highest spending league, with a total of £106m, although more than half of that amount comes from Paris Saint-Germain's £59m signing of Napoli's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. In contrast, English Championship clubs have spent £44m, while Spanish La Liga clubs have spent just £2m collectively.
Remarkably, League One's Huddersfield has spent more than the entire Spanish top-flight, with over £4m in transfers.
Manchester City remains the biggest spender, with £123m allocated across three signings. Other Premier League clubs like Ipswich Town, Southampton, and Wolves have also made notable moves, with Ipswich spending about £20m to sign winger Jaden Philogene from Aston Villa.
Nine Premier League signings have exceeded £10m, with City's trio of signings leading the charge. Other notable transfers include Tottenham's £12.5m acquisition of goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky and Crystal Palace's £12m signing of Romain Esse from Millwall.
Outside of the Premier League, the biggest transfer was PSG's signing of Kvaratskhelia for £59m, which stands out as the joint-largest move globally in January. Zenit St Petersburg also made headlines with the £27.8m signing of Brazilian winger Luiz Henrique from Botafogo.
Frankfurt's £21.9m signing of Elye Wahi from Marseille is another notable transfer, but apart from these, no other non-Premier League clubs have made £20m-plus signings.
