Porto Negotiate Discounted Permanent Deal for Nigerian Forward Terem Moffi Following Nice Fallout

Posted : 06 May 2026

FC Porto have opened negotiations with French side OGC Nice to secure the permanent signing of Nigerian striker Terem Moffi at a reduced price. The 26-year-old forward moved to the Estádio do Dragão on a temporary basis during the winter transfer window. The Dragons currently hold an option to buy the player for a fixed fee of €8 million, but reports from Portugal suggest the club is seeking a better financial arrangement.

Moffi’s departure from France was triggered by a fractured relationship with OGC Nice supporters. The incident occurred following a 3-3 draw and a subsequent defeat where fans reportedly confronted the striker and teammate Jeremie Boga. This hostility led Moffi’s legal team to seek a contract termination before Porto intervened with a loan offer. Nice are reportedly eager to finalize a permanent exit as they do not plan to reintegrate the forward into their squad.

Since joining the Portuguese giants, the Super Eagles international has registered two goals and one assist across fifteen appearances. While his scoring numbers have been modest, his presence in the squad has provided depth during Porto’s recent domestic campaign. The club recently celebrated their 31st league title, and manager Vitor Bruno is keen to finalize his roster for the upcoming season.

The permanent acquisition of Moffi would see him join a competitive forward line at Porto. He is expected to battle for playing time against Spanish international Samu Aghehowa, who has been in prolific form this season with 13 goals. With Samu currently recovering from a long-term injury, the retention of Moffi is seen as a strategic move to maintain attacking options.

The proposed deal includes a potential €250,000 in performance-related add-ons and a 10% sell-on clause for the French club. Porto are looking to capitalize on Nice's desire to offload the player to drive the price below the initial valuation. Final talks are expected to conclude before the summer transfer window officially opens in June.
