Plumptre Returns as Super Falcons Name 28 Players for Comoros Olympic Qualifiers

Ashley Plumptre has returned to the Super Falcons squad after more than a year away as interim coach Augustine Eguavoen named 28 players for Nigeria’s Los Angeles 2028 Olympic qualifying tie against Comoros. The defender missed the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations because of injury but has since returned to competitive action.

Captain Rasheedat Ajibade and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie headline the squad, which also includes Michelle Alozie, Oluwatosin Demehin, Christy Ucheibe, Jennifer Echegini, Toni Payne and Gift Monday. Experienced forwards Asisat Oshoala and Uchenna Kanu are also part of the group.

Eguavoen has also included several young players as Nigeria begins its Olympic qualification campaign. Christiana Uzoma, Farida Abdulwahab, Tumininu Adeshina, Favour Nkwocha, Shakirat Moshood, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi and Janet Akekoromowei are among the younger players selected.

The squad is expected to report to the AM2PM Hotel in Ijebu-Ode on Saturday, October 3. The camp will provide the Falcons with an opportunity to prepare for a two-legged second-round encounter against Comoros.

Comoros will be designated as the home team for the first leg on Friday, October 9. However, both matches will take place at the Remo Stars Sports Stadium in Ikenne-Remo because Comoros does not have a venue approved by the Confederation of African Football for international fixtures.

Nigeria received a bye into the second round of the Olympic qualifying competition. Comoros reached this stage after a dominant first-round campaign against Sudan, winning the two-legged tie 30-0 on aggregate after a 13-0 second-leg victory.

The return leg between Nigeria and Comoros is scheduled for Tuesday, October 13. The team that wins the tie on aggregate will advance to the third round of the qualification campaign.

The Olympic qualifying programme will continue through several rounds, with the campaign scheduled to conclude in December 2027. Nigeria will therefore begin its pursuit of a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Games with a squad combining established internationals and emerging players.
