Sources close to the club revealed that the Jos-based outfit, popularly known as the Peace Boys, is considering Nigeria U-20 national team coach, Aliyu Zubairu, as a leading candidate for the position.
Zubairu, who recently departed NPFL rivals El-Kanemi Warriors after two seasons, is said to be in advanced discussions with Plateau United’s management.
Internal deliberations on his possible appointment reportedly took place at the Plateau State Government House, further fueling speculation that the 44-year-old tactician is the top choice after a rigorous selection process.
Although Mangut still has one year left on his contract, the club’s leadership appears ready to shake up its technical team ahead of the new campaign.
The Plateau State government, which oversees the club, earlier announced plans to revamp the team’s structure, including the replacement of the General Manager with a substantive Sporting Director and the creation of a new Commercial Director role. These moves aim to make the club more commercially viable and aligned with global best practices.
Despite his national team duties with the Flying Eagles, Zubairu has reportedly expressed interest in taking over at Plateau United, suggesting he may balance both roles or relinquish one for the other.
Zubairu’s coaching credentials and success at both club and youth national team levels make him a strong contender for the post, especially as Plateau United look to build on their 7th-place finish in the just-concluded NPFL season.
