2025/2026 NPFL Match Day 24: Plateau United Deepen Remo Stars’ Crisis with Dramatic Away Win

Posted : 03 February 2026

Defending champions Remo Stars are running out of answers as their difficult season took another worrying turn with a 2–1 home defeat to Plateau United on Match Day 24 of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League.

Once considered a fortress, the Sky Blue Stars’ home ground advantage has evaporated since the NPFL relocated the club to Ibadan following disturbances involving Ikorodu City. Since then, Remo Stars have looked like a shadow of their title-winning side, failing to record a win in their last four matches—three defeats and a draw—a run that has dragged them deeper into relegation trouble.

Plateau United, in contrast, arrived with belief and left with maximum points, continuing their remarkable resurgence under veteran coach Gbenga Ogunbote. The Peace Boys struck first in the 29th minute through Jonathan Okechukwu, silencing the home supporters and setting the tone for a disciplined and confident performance from the Jos-based side.

Remo Stars showed a glimpse of their old fighting spirit shortly after the hour mark when Liberian forward Albert Korvah restored parity, raising hopes of a comeback for Daniel Ogunmodede’s men. But just when it appeared the champions would salvage a point, Plateau United delivered a sucker punch in stoppage time. Harrison Ebah emerged as the hero, finishing clinically to seal a dramatic late victory and extend Plateau United’s unbeaten run to five matches, comprising three wins and two draws.

The result lifts Plateau United further away from relegation danger, placing them 14th on the table with 30 points from 24 matches (9 wins, 3 draws, 12 losses), a testament to their renewed form and tactical discipline.

For Remo Stars, the situation is far more alarming. The defending champions now sit 18th on the table with 26 points (8 wins, 2 draws, 14 losses), staring at the very real possibility of relegation unless fortunes change quickly. What once looked like a season of title defense has now turned into a desperate battle for survival.
